Mugi Weblogs - Morgan's Weblogs

Time to play - Mon, 27/08/07
Having now returned from flight school, and with a month off until I start work as a First Officer for FlyBE, there's some time to relax and have fun.
There's also time to evaluate some of the nice new toys we've been playing with here at Mugi. I'm very excited by the propsavers we've got. Tested yesterday with a high performance brushless and they're brilliant. No problems with the power transmission and now I don't have to worry about landing with the prop vertical as it just swings out of the way. Awesome!

Slope soaring the Evo - Mon, 20/08/07
After a long break from UK flying I finally returned from Spain to a 'tour' of family and friends. Currently staying in Tynemouth where the weather has been changeable and a touch wet for flying.
However, the chance to take an Evo up to the ridge at Simonside nr Rothbury presented itself and so I jumped at the chance. After a very long walk up to the ridge we flew our Evos in a 10kt breeze complete with drizzle and clouds blowing in our faces. I couldn't be bothered to de-electrify my Evo and so flew it with brushless motor and 1800mA Lipo onboard. Top my surprise it sloped perfectly well, perhaps performing slightly better than brother Gavin's 200g dedicated glider.
It's convinced me to spend some time on redeveloping the gliding credentials of the design - it was awesome fun!

Modelling School? - Thu, 24/08/06
Twenty weeks into flight school and it seems I've found a fair amount of time to devote to my twinwall habit. Pictured are the aircraft I've built since arriving (all except the green pylon racer which came with me). The white Evo is an attempt at a more lightweight slowflying variant to be flown in the car park outside my dorm here at the airport.

Bye bye Barnsley, Hello Jerez - Sat, 15/04/06
(It works 'cause it's pronounced 'Hereth') I'm typing this the night before embarking on a 1600 mile road trip to the Andalucian peninsula in Spain - in pursuit of a life long ambition.
For the next fifteen months I'll be in training for my Airline Transport Pilot's Licence. While I'm studying hard in ground school, and eventually behind the wheel or whatever (I think we learn that in lesson one), of a full size aeroplane Mugi will be in safe hands. My parents will look after the online shop and I'll continue to make tweaks from afar. I'm hoping to get some spare time to actually get some model flying done too!

I'm planning to log my progress on the course so keep an eye out for my new online journal.
Happy flying!

Need your input! - Wed, 28/09/05
Have you got a Mugi story you'd like to tell? Do you like, loathe or feel indifferent about your Evo? If you'd like to tell the world what you think then please drop an email to morgan@mugi.co.uk
we're looking to put a new section on the site to let you 'tell it like it is' and we'd like some of your tales to start the ball rolling. Thanks!

Slow flying - Sun, 11/09/05
Spent most of today at Ma n Pa's house in Holmfirth. Took my Evo out for a post roast fly. Adrian (Pa) filmed while I tried to demo how slow the Evo can fly. At one point I did a low pass so darn low that we could hear the prop hitting blades of grass - that's low as in 10cm altitude. Beat that and keep your prop intact! I'd claim it as the first touch and go with an Evo except that Pete did one at Walsall - only his Evo emerged with half a prop, but still flying! Click multimedia to watch a new vid of slow flying.

Programming and a hectic week - Thu, 18/08/05
We'll soon be announcing a new Evo Kit - this time all pre-cut and more what you'd expect from a kit rather than the 'plan pack' style offering to date. Also the new kit will be shippable to anywhere on the globe for less than a fiver. So that's coming soon. Also, it's Greenacres fly-in this weekend and we've been gearing up for a fun time there. If you're near there please come down and support the Walsall club. We'll be night flying as per usual and all are welcome to join us for an evening of wine (post flying of course) and barbeque! In other news, I just finished a new version of the movie player and added a new movie! The new player streams the video so is a step forward on the last. Go watchee that new movie - it's a chap called Andrew flying his Evo. Thanks to him for letting us use his movie.

Pylon racer final version - Mon, 25/07/05
Spent almost all weekend building the third iteration of the new pylon racer design. Tweaked the design and meticulously measured all the parts in preparation for online plans. Took absolutely ages, but judging from the reception it got at Pontefract it should be worth the effort. Building three at once, one of which is translucent and will get some serious lighting on board. Watch this space for more news.

Back from Ponte, tired hot and happy - Sun, 17/07/05
Had a great time today at Pontefract Fly-in. Once again the PANDAS put on a fab do, laid on a barbeque for everyone and created a very friendly atmosphere. The weather was amazing too. Met some lovely people and introduced the Evo and new racers to a new crowd. Thanks to the organisers and everyone who came to see us!

All geared up for Ponte - Sat, 16/07/05
Got everything ready... well almost for the Pontefract club electric fly-in at the racecourse tomorrow, 17th July. I'm just finishing off a new Evo to test a new brushless motor and I'll also have the two new racers on show too. If you're going, look out for our big gazebo and please come and say hello.
